I understand for version R2 software I have to buy the profesional PowerChute software which is not a problem. I would like to know what to buy for server 'shutdown' and will it work with this model UPS?APC PowerChute Network Shutdown v4.0 – Virtual IT power protection
If I am wrong, what do I need? I have the free Business version installed right now with no agents on the VMs. Thanks for any assistance. I am still cinfused about the network shutdown and com cards. This sounds fishy to me.
If I send the shutdown commant to my Hypervisor, it will turn off my two VMs first before powering down so why has this become so complcated? Thanks for the assistance. I do not mind spending my customers money if they need network shutdown but it stil does not make sense to me. If I shut down the Server R2 hypervisor, it stops the services and shuts down the VMs first on its own. I can't wrap m head around the concept of shutting down my VMs with PowerShute software if the Server R2 server will shut them down anyway.

Need help? Thanks for the quick reply. Which version did you get?
I can't find a way to install the server module, only the agent just as described in the attachment inside the msi. I can reach this version " PowerChute Business Edition v9. Anybody would help me please? The server and console modules are not compatible with Hyper-V server core. You can install the Agent and monitor from another Windows system running the server and console or monitor the agent via web interface from another system with a GUI.

Or is there something I'm missing? You should install on the Hyper-V server and configure for Hyper-V. The problem is - I'm not able to get to the web configuration panel. Connection times out, doesn't matter if I'm using IP address or name. The command is sc query pcns1. Next thing to check is to verify that port is open.
Hyper-v is always problematic. Any other ideas? I'm kinda stuck here and I'd love to finish our UPS setup. Choose a location.

Firewall issues. Thank you for your help! Page 1 of 1 6 items. My gut tells me that I should install the install for Microsoft Hyper-V as that's the VM's that I want to turn off if I have a blackout and then the host.
This is because the agent communicates directly with HyperV and tells it to shut down all of the VMs when your battery is low. If you installed the Windows version, you'd have to install it on every VM to achieve the same results. Thanks for reaching out.
You are correct. You'll want to install the software for Hyper-V. I am assuming you have a network management card installed in the UPS and are using Powerchute Network Shutdown, so I'll attach the link to the user guide for this software. The Hyper-V version gives you the option of what to do with the guests. However, if you have the regular version installed on the host, your guests will do whatever Hyper-V is configured to do on host shutdown - suspend, shutdown, etc.
Well, I'm trying to download the Hyper-V version but the only thing that are downloading is a file named "files" and it has nothing, no. Which specific software package did you download?
Once I know what you are working with, I can better assist you. Please do not hesitate to contact our support team if you need immediate assistance with installing the software. Your local support team may be contacted by selecting your country at the link I have provided below:.
And then it did just download a file named file with no. I hope you can report it so they can fix it. Also both the Hyper-V version and the Windows version file is labled the same - is it the same file? Now I'm on, what I'm trying to do with my settings is that I want all of my VM's to turn off when the APC have 10min left on it's battery have I done it correctly in the picture below?
And when it's only 2min left of the battery I want the outletts to turn off. FWIW, I just downloaded from the link you provided and it downloaded pcbesetup. It did also work for me now I don't know why it dident work before. Regarding my settings, is them correct setup above? Right now you have shutdown beginning once the UPS reaches a runtime limit of seconds, which does not sound like you want.
Do you know how much runtime the UPS will provide in the event of a power failure? If you know that it will take 10 minutes for shutdown to complete and you have 15 minutes of available runtime, as an example, you can choose " after the UPS has been on battery for" instead and then enter a value there that will ensure you have 10 minutes to complete the process.Apologies for the tenor of my posts, but I really am flabbergasted at the ignorance of APC's position on this topic.
The 'right' thing to do is bypass the Hyper-V installation block when installing on a physical machine. APC is crossing a line by dictating what I can run on my servers, period. There's simply no justification for it. Sell the network product on its merits - I'm sure there will be many people who will appreciate the benefits of having a 3rd party take care of gracefully shutting down their VM's before the host machine shuts down, but forcing the issue will do nothing for the product or the brand, except tarnish it.
Even since this fee was implemented there have been a number of changes to the VMware platform. We do recognize that this is undesirable and I believe changes are forthcoming so stay tuned. APC is always higher on price than most and the quality of product is not better.
This is just one more thing that will influence the decision of our IT company about what brand of ups we purchase. We have always purchased APC but with the recent failure of a PDU and with their prices high this is affecting our decision. We do have Smart-UPS in place. Basically what we need is only to gracefully shut down our host OS. VM will be paused automatically once host hyper-v os is initiates shutdown. I know that PowerChute Business Edition 8.
